Boy, not much to say this time :-(

Ashley is back at college, safe and sound. She always calls me when she gets there to let me know she made it. This time I asked her if she was glad to be back, to which she answered "No." Oh don't get us wrong, she loves school, she just loves home better.

Making Progress on my shawl. I am on section 4. I am also working on a gift for a friend, so I am currently working on both at the same time (wouldn't that take 4 hands?). It kind of looks strange in progress (the gift) so I will show a picture when I am done.

New book - "The Great Indoors" by Sabine Durrant. The only thing I didn't like about it is that it takes place in England and I usually don't like British books, but now it's ok, the wording is sometimes weird. I actually have to read some sentences twice because it is not the way we would say it here. Ok I have to ask you something, now this is kind of strange, I find myself reading this book in a British accent, does this ever happen to you? If I read a southern book I read with a southern accent etc. and I actually come away talking like that. It's like I get into character. Ashley sometimes makes fun of me and I have to tell her "sorry, I am reading a book that takes place in the south." I do that after movies too.
Has anyone tried to click on my "Library Thing" link? My mother tried and said that she couldn't get it to come up. Has anybody else tried? I would like to know. If it doesn't work I will have to tweak it. "Library Thing" if I may put in a plug here, is a great site! It keeps track of the books that you have read, you can list them anyway you want, with pictures of the covers. You can also see who and how many people have also read the same books. It lets you write and read reviews, rate books, etc. It really is alot of fun, check it out!

Last weeks poll was Easter candy, OK, OK!!!! Sorry about the peeps! I love them too! I just forgot! I knew it felt like something was missing but couldn't figure it out. So here are the results - Choc.-2, white choc.-2, peanutbutter eggs-1, malted milk eggs-1, Ok so if nobody really likes jelly beans, why do they sell so many? AND! there are only 6 votes here people! I know many more than 6 people read this, how hard is it to "click"? This weeks poll is about your computer. What is on your "desktop" personal pictures? the plain blue screen that came with it? a desktop picture from a website? one that you "created" yourself? I get my desktop picture from a website that Ashley told me about crossmap.com it has beautiful pictures with verses from the bible. I and try to make it seasonal. Right now I have pink spring flowers (wishful thinking).

Sorry this is a short one! I hope next week will be better.

Easter Blessings To All!

Well that last post sure struck up some comments! Good! gives us all some things to think about; I like that. Unfortunately I don't think I can match it this week. Maybe next week I will try to do something "deep".

Ashley is home this week for "spring break". She came home last Fri. and is going back on Mon. after Easter. On Tues. we did the - shopping, lunch, talking, relaxing, girls day out, thing! It was fun. We went to Auburn, went to the Mall then the Chinese buffet. Last Sat. night we went to the "Snowmobile Club" dinner. There was good food and it was fun. There were lots of door prizes, Ashley won a hat!

Easter is Sun. "Christ the Lord is Risen today" We will go to church then later we will go out to dinner with Glen's parents. This is tradition now, we stay home and cook for every other holiday but decided that for Easter we would go out to some place nice.

I have not knitted at all since Ashley has been home, this is not her fault, I just haven't done it. I have been reading a little. I started a new book - "The Almost Moon" by Alice Sebold. It is about a woman who literally kills her mother. It is a mercy killing. Her mother is at the end of her life after having cancer and is not living a quality life anymore. So She puts a towel over her face and kills her. I am only a few chapters into it but it is OK so far, it has a lot of flash backs "memories" and I think that is what the book will mostly be. she is the same Author who wrote "The Lovely Bones" if you haven't read that yet, you should, it was great!

On the right towards the bottom there is a small link to my "Library Thing" this is a website that you can list the books that you have read, there are pictures of the covers and reviews, etc. it is really nice! Of course this is not all the books I have read, but it is a small start. Please take a few minutes to check it out and let me know what you think. I think I have about 5 pages of books so far.

My poll last week was Favorite junk food - Chips-3, ice cream-4, chocolate-2, and baked goods-0. In keeping with the food theme the new poll is what is your favorite Easter candy? not being on the list mine is Cadbury Mini eggs, they are the best!

What makes a marriage work?

Boy I have really led a boring life this past week! The week consisted of icestorms, snowstorms, reading, knitting, and Ashley coming home. Oh yeah... Ashley came home!

Ashley brought a new "Friend" home with her on Sunday for us to meet. They came home in the morning, went to church with me (Glen got called in to work because of a tree down in the road), had lunch, went to meet the grandparents, hung out, ate dinner, then went home. It was good to see her again. Her friend, Micah, seems like a nice guy, he has a good head on his shoulders and he seems like the type who would take good care of her. But for right now they are "just friends" getting to know each other (although... It would be OK with me if they started dating).

I guess I am old fashion when it comes to relationships. I want Ashley to be with someone who can "take care of her". I don't want her to be the guy in a relationship. I don't want her to have to take care of him. I want to see her with someone who is smart, worldly enough to know how to survive out there, ambitious, hard worker, has or can get a good job, but is sensitive to her wants and needs. I don't believe in "woman's lib" when it comes to marriage. I don't want to have to change my own oil, wash my own car, take out the garbage, make repairs, Glen does all that stuff. On the other hand, I do all the cooking, cleaning, shopping, I get his lunch ready for him every morning, get the coffee ready. He has his jobs and I have my jobs and our marriage works! We don't split everything 50/50, I don't ask him to cook and he doesn't ask me to wash the cars. We like it that way. I guess that is another reason why I would survive living in the 1800's. Back then the men went to work and the women took care of the home, and THAT is fine with me, I can't wait till I don't have to work anymore!!! I guess if you have a 50/50 marriage and it works for you then that is all that matters.

I started a new book "Flies on the Butter" by Denise Hildreth. I read three of her other books and loved them, she is a Christian Fiction writer. So far this book is good with a very powerful message. It is about a woman who moved from SC to Washington DC and hasn't seen her mother in ten years, and now she is headed back home (you don't know why she left and why she is headed back yet), it is all about the drive home and all the people she meets along the way and her anxieties about going home.

My poll last week was What time would you like to visit? 1960's -2, 1800's -2, 1930's-1, 1700's -1, I found it interesting that no one wanted to visit the future, I guess we are more comfortable with what we know. This week's poll is - Junk Food!! I hope to get lots of responses to this one.

Travel

This weather is going to be the death of me yet! I have had a headache 5 out of 7 days this week, Sinus pressure, burning, etc, even my jaw hurts! We have gone from "kinda nice- in the 40's" to "freezing- 6 or less!" to yesterday was 60 and high 50's! and now today is low 30's. We have snowstorms one day, great thaw the next, freezing rain the next! It is no wonder we are all so sick! I know I say this every year... BUT... I really can't wait till spring! And this time I mean it.
We have had just enough snowstorms to allow Glen to snowmobile, which is really nice. This past weekend he went snowmobiling in the Hector area with some guys from work.

I finished the doily I was crocheting! It is really pretty, now I need to iron and starch it. So I am back to working on my shawl I am knitting, and I was right, it is going faster since I took a break.

I read a book called "Avoiding Prison and other Noble Vacation Goals" By Wendy Dale. It was great! It was a true story, a memoir, about a woman traveling to other countries, only not really normal vacation countries, but to places like Cuba, Lebanon, Colombia, etc. and she did this back when American travel to these countries was illegal, so she had to get into them illegally. It was a really neat insight into these other countries. she talked about their politics, economics, food, etc. I actually learned alot, and it was funny, sad, enjoyable.

My last Poll was - which one of "my places" would you like to go to? I thought I should explain how I arrived to the point where I wanted to visit these places.
Nome, Alaska - I am a huge fan of the Iditarod! I know you didn't know this but I am! It is going on right now by the way. I go to the website several times a day to track the mushers. Nome is the finish point.
http://www.iditarod.com/race/ There is actually a webcam where you can watch the racers coming in. During the rest of the year it is pointed at the visitors center in the city of Nome but towards the end of the Iditarod it will be pointed towards the finish line. http://www.nomealaska.org/vc/cam-pageframe.htm
The site of the Oregon trail
- My daughter has always told me that I am living in the wrong time period. I have always been fascinated with the 1800's, the Oregon trail, the west, no electric, no phone, simple life! There was a two year period when I read all the books about the Oregon trail there was available, I became kind of an expert on the subject. If I was given the chance to give up my computer, phone, elec, and live a life like that - I really think I could do it. Think about it, everything I love I could still have (God, my family, books, knitting, crocheting, not to mention, I love a wood stove!)
The coast of Maine - Well, need I really explain? the ocean!, Lighthouses!, Ragged rocky beaches!, Lobster!, Islands!, what more could you want?
Antarctica - I read a book called "Icebound: a doctor's incredible battle for survival at the south pole" It was about a woman doctor who worked at the science station down there, during her stay she got cancer. Ever since then I have been reading books and viewing videos on Antarctica.
Papua New Guinea
- Well back when "The travel Channel" actually had shows about travel (not poker) there was a documentary about these guys who canoed from Australia up around Papua New Guinea, they met the natives (who are Christians by the way!) it was a great show, the island is beutiful! the people were nice, they have their problems like any country, but again I was fascinated.
The results to my poll were - Nome, Alaska -2, Oregon Trail -2, Maine -1, Antarctica -1, Papua New Guinea -0. My new Poll is also about travel, time travel! If you could travel to another time, not necessary to live, but just to experience it, what would it be? What time period are you fascinated with?
