Technical difficulties

The power cord on my laptop seems to be going. When booting up, the picture does not show up unless you wiggle the cord, you can hear it starting, just no picture. I ordered a new cord from that wonderful place that has everything, Amazon. I do hope that is the problem and that all will be solved and happy again as soon as the new cord shows up on my doorstep. I bought this little laptop off of eBay about three years ago. It is an older one that had been refurbished. It has been a great computer, till now. I guess I can't complain for about $350.00.

Have any of you ever gotten those emails that start - You know you live in the north when... or - You know you are a southerner when...
Well this is not from an email I have gotten, these are real actual truths about my town.

You know you live in a small town when...
Your mailman is also the mayor,
and the substitute mailman is the chief of police!

Someone walks down the street and you say - "Who is that?"
"Seriously, Who is that? Must be a visitor!"

You go into the Post office to mail a package and you end up standing there talking to the postal lady about the latest episode of "Survivor" for 10 min!

The owner of the local gas station actually tells you not to buy gas today because she is lowering the price tomorrow!

We had our first snow of the season! Just a dusting but snow! North east of us got about 15".
When I changed the sheets on the bed I put on the flannel ones and an extra blanket.
It was really nasty out yesterday (Tues.) 27 mph. winds rain, and snow. I am sooo not ready for this!

I have been real slow with my reading this week but I am reading a great book! "Confessions of a Contractor" by Richard Murphy. It is very funny! It is about a building contractor in L.A. and the relationships he has with his clients and the different jobs he has. This is not a true story, just a novel, but the Author was (or is) a contractor so makes you wonder...

Laundry is definitely the chore you get behind in the most. On the bright side, I am not the only one! On the down side - there are an awful lot of piles of laundry waiting to be done out there! Get to work!

The music site that I download from is also having Tech. difficulties!!!! So no new song this week.

What are the top 5 foods you hate the most!

1. Mushrooms!
2. Meat - thats why I don't eat it - LOL
3. Blue cheese
4. Artichokes
5. Snails
If there were a #6 it would be black olives.

Vacation for the day!

On Sunday my husband and I went up to our lake property in the Thousand Isles. We just spent the day. We went up real early and ate breakfast on the way at "Cracker Barrel" it was a really great breakfast by the way! (remind me later to tell you about this lady we saw, K?) We got to our property around 10:00. It was a beautiful day, kinda cool but sunny. We went down to the lake and stood for a while, I could just stand there looking at "our lake" forever. Then we went up to the camper. The camper... mice! Boy how I hate mice! Signs of them all over! It is so discouraging. A friend of mine told me to use peppermint oil to keep them away and I keep forgetting, I will have to get some. Glen brought a Brush Hog and mowed all around the area. We decided to eat lunch down by the lake so we carried our chairs down, it was so nice. As we were just finishing we heard someone. It was our neighbor. He was up for the night. We spent quite some time talking to him. He is very nice. We got alot of very good ideas from him and he is so willing to help! He watches the place while we are gone and checks on it. He told us he knows someone who can build us a large shed type building that we could use for living space till we build a cottage. He has one, it had sliding glass doors on the front and a window in the back. It would be big enough for a bed and table and chairs and some cupboards. We would have a little deck coming off it for a BBQ grill for cooking. I love this idea! I want to get rid of the camper and the mice! We are talking about doing it next year! Then when we build a cottage we can use it for storage (four wheelers, canoes, etc.). He also showed us a small solar pannel he has for charging the battery for his lights etc. So we might get one of those too. We got home late that night, around 9:30. It was a good day!

OK, getting back to the lady we saw at Cracker Barrel, she was tall and thin, had on black pants with very white shoes. She had very RED lipstick, and her hair, if you are old enough to remember, her hair looked like Phylis Diller's, it was really teased, went up and out, very big hair! I asked Glen "Do you think she looks in the mirror and says 'Damn I look good!'. " What do people actually think when they make themselves up like that? What do they see in the mirror? I don't know about you but I know when I don't look good!

I am reading the last book in a series by Lori Wick called "Jessie" I am liking it but it took me about 30 pages to figure out that this book started out in the past before the other books happened, then went to present time - 1884.

I am knitting Christmas gifts. Can't tell you what incase it is for you!

Most people who answered my poll go out to eat several times a week. My new poll is what chore do you get behind in the most? Mine is Laundry! It seems like I get caught up then just get behind again so fast!

My music for this week is "Life in a Northern Town" by Sugarland, Little Big Town, and Jake Owens. GREAT song!!!!! Let me know if you like it.

Top 5! What are your top 5 favorite desserts? YUM!!! This one should be easy!

1. Ice cream - I love ice cream! We almost always have ice cream in the freezer.
2. Cheese cake
3. Rice pudding - my grandmother made the best rice pudding!
4. Lemon Meringue pie - I had to look up how to spell that!
5. French silk pie

(mom, I know you don't eat many desserts now, but just do it as if you were not on weight watchers) by the way my mom makes great bread pudding with a caramel sauce!

Busy, busy, busy!

Boy it seems like I have been so busy this week. This one might be short and quick.
Ashley took the pictures above. That's me with my little bow and arrow, And those are my arrows in the target!!!! Not bad, huh?

For the past two weeks "my kids" and I have been working on mobiles, using Shrinky dinks! Remember those? I didn't even know they still existed. If you don't know, they are sheets of plastic that you can trace or draw pictures and color them in, then cut out. You put them in the oven just for about a min. and they curl up and shrink. the kids thought this was Way Cool! Then we hung them from sticks to make mobiles.
Ashley came home for the weekend, when she saw the mobiles, she said "these are cool, I want to make one!" So Ashley made a mobile too!
The kids noticed I had a lot of candles. They asked why I had so many candles. I said, "...because I like to light them." So they asked if we could light a candle - and now we eat breakfast by "candle light" every morning. They take turns choosing which flavor.

Someone asked me on a comment (don't know who it was) why I did not want to go to India. It is just a country I am not interested in. It is very over crowded, poor, and not kept up (in most places) now I am not prejudiced or stupid, I do know that parts of India must be very pretty and interesting. I am just not interested in finding out. I also do not want to go to England, Spain, Mexico, Germany, Russia or France. I am not saying any of these countries are "Bad" I am just not as interested in them.
Some countries I am interested in are Brazil, Chili, Actually all of South America! Iceland, Greenland, Switzerland, Antarctica, Australia, Papua New Guinea, Islands, any of them, I love Islands! Parts of Africa, New Zealand, just to name a few!
There are probably just as many countries I do not want to go to as those I do.

My top 5 this week has to do with your favorite "activity" or what ever it is you like to do (knitting, photography, surfing the 'net, music, etc.) list the 5 things that attract you to that activity, number 1 being doing that activity. Here's mine -

1. knitting
2. looking for patterns on the internet (I can do this for hours! and not get bored)

4. Looking at my old knitting magazines (again, I can do this for hours, the same ones over and over, and I have MANY, MANY, knitting magazines, I love them)
5. Going to Yarn shops, to buy or just to look, getting ideas!

Knitting Pictures!

+

Ok, Here they are. Knitting pictures I have been promising you. They are - My niece Paula (I didn't knit her!), baby items I made for her, the beginning of my gloves and matching hat.

Paula and my other niece Casey, came here from CT for the weekend and my daughter came home for the weekend. We had a little baby shower for Paula. My sister, another niece and her daughter came over as well. It was nice, informal, just "us girls", food and presents. Paula and Casey stayed here Fri. night (thank you Ashley for letting Paula use your bed).

Fall is really starting to set in here! It has been in the 50's, Wed. it should get up close to 70! Woo Hoo! I am starting to do some fall projects with the kids.

My life is kind of like one of those email jokes "you know you are getting old when..." This is what everyday is like for me.
I will put in a load of laundry, see a poster that needs to be hung for the kids, go to get a hammer for the tacks, on the way I spot the washer, it's done, so I put them in the dryer, go to the living room, realize I didn't get the hammer, go back for the hammer, think "I should write this down for my blog", put the hammer on the couch so I can type on my computer, see some old mail on the table and think "I should go get the mail, get mail and bring it to the living room, see the hammer on the couch, finally hang up poster about 20 min. later! This is no joke!

I finished reading "Nude Men" it was sad at the end. So it went from being Hilarious, gross, then sad. I found out why it was called Nude Men. In the beginning a guy, Jeremy, meets a woman who is a painter of nude men, so I thought that was the reason. Then he becomes friends with her and her 11 yr. old daughter. They find out the daughter, Sarah, is dieing from a tumor. During a Doctor's visit, they leave the building and Sarah is hit and killed by a car! Jeremy askes the person how she could possibly hit the little girl! The woman says she was distracted by a nude man in a window of a nearby building. It turns out that the nude man was Jeremy's best friend who knew nothing of the accident, let alone that he was the cause!
I am now reading "The Girl Who Stopped Swimming" It is a murder mystery. I don't think there are any nude men in it.

New song this week is "The Lighthouse Tale" by Nickel Creek. It is a really sad song if you listen to the words. It tells a story. This is my favorite Nickel Creek song! Of course I would like the sad ones!

My poll is - Have you ever cheated on a test (in school or otherwise), writing answers on your hand, looking on someones paper, etc. come on be honest, well I guess if you cheated, why start being honest now right!

My top 5 for this week - Top 5 things you like to do with your Significant other!

1. Go to our cabin or lake property
2. Go down to Ithaca (pizza and shopping)
3. Go out for coffee
4. Go canoing, we haven't done this in a long time, but we really have fun.
