Love on a Dime, by Cara Lynn James

Review and book giveaway!

Beautiful, sweet book - I will be eagerly awaiting for more by this Author

Book Description -  Its 1899 in Newport, Rhode Island. Authors of "Dime Novels" are considered to be scandalous, but that is exactly what Lilly Westbrook is doing. Under the pen name of Fannie Cole, Lilly is secretly writing Dime Novels and donating most of the money to her favorite charity. No one knows who this famous Author is, her parents, her soon to be husband, even her publisher. The owner of a local gossip paper is blackmailing her to keep her secret. If people find out, her family's reputation will be ruined. Her former Beau returns after several years, buys the publishing company and tries to win Lilly back. He has an idea that  she is the secret Authoress and wants to help her. He turns Lilly's world upside down. Now she is not so sure of any of the decisions she has made.

My Review -  This is the first book in "The Ladies of Summerhill" series. I will be looking for the other books in this series! This was a real sweet book with  an original storyline. I really enjoyed this book very much. Historical fiction is one of my favorite genre's to read and this one certainly didn't disappoint! The Author did a great job of developing the characters. It was so easy to absolutely fall in love with Lilly right away. I felt like she became part of my family. I wanted her to make the right choices and I actually found myself talking to the book out loud as if she could hear me, "Come on Lilly, just let him help you!" The Author also made the sinister Colonel MacIntyre very easy to hate! I was rooting for Jack and booing Harlan. Cara Lynn James also did a fine job of painting the scenery. I really did feel like I was transported back to 1899. In the middle of the book I went online to a luxury home site and looked up homes in Newport Rhode Island, just to see what it is like there today. Not too many books will make me want to do that.
Let me also say that the cover on this book is absolutely beautiful! The girl on the cover (Lilly) is stunning, the subdued colors and the subtle background all perfect! I give the cover a 10!

I recommend this book for women or older girls (it is a christian book so there is no swearing or sex) who like historical fiction and even though it is a christian book, it is not "in you face" preachy. Just a real nice story without all the garbage. I am really looking forward to reading more by Cara Lynn James!
