A 21 yr old's first wine tasting

This was our fun filled day of wine tasting.
Our first stop was "Americana Vineyards" This is my daughter posing out front. The winery is an old barn that used to be located in a different location in Trumansburg, built in 1820. In 2002 it was taken apart and put back together again in the new location in Covert. It is beautiful inside. The wines are excellent. This is only minutes from us and it is one of my favorite wineries. A friend of mine I used to work with now works here. I had promised her that I would bring my daughter back when she turned 21. So this was the first place we went.

This is My daughter with my two nieces who came from CT for the day to go with us.
This is the "Frontenac Point Vineyard" located in Trumansburg.

We also went to the "Bellwether Hard Cider" place. None of the girls had ever had real hard cider before. It is just like tasting wine.

This is "Lucas Vineyards", I just happen to know both daughters of the owner and got to see them both when we went. Again - really good wine here!

This is "Buttonwood Grove Winery", This is a great picture of my daughter but not a great picture of the winery. It is a beautiful building which my husband happened to build! This is one of my favorite wineries and I just love their wines.

This is "The Coblestone Winery", This was the first time I had actually been in the tasting room. This is the winery where we go for the cherry festival. We have always tasted the wines outside at the festival. Oh, and that is me with my daughter.

What's happening - The daycare is back in the swing of things. The kids are great, they just know what to do, they are so used to the schedule. They were all happy to be back. I have switched the room around a little and gotten a new shelf. I think the room flows better this way and there is more room for toys. All the children have homework almost everyday! So right after snack it is homework time. the parents love it that they get their homework done before they get home.

I have to say I was a little disappointed in the first 2 shows of "Glee" I hope it gets better or I will be dropping this show! The first show of "Dancing with the stars" was great! Survivor also started and a jerk has already emerged! Other shows I can't wait for are - Trauma, Mercy, SVU, House (I recorded it last night), American Idol, there are other new shows that look good but I think I am going to have to pick and choose.

Books I have read - "The Old Family Farm: Farm Life 100 Years Ago" by George Grier. This was an interesting read. It was anicdotes about farm life back in the late 1800's in Maryland. Some chapters included - The family buggy, The butter churn, Old country store, The tin lizzie, One room school, and many many more. It was a fun quick read.

Top 5 - things you would like about living in the 1800's
1. No phones! (would not miss these a bit)
2. Simpler way of life (you spent time doing what was important)
3. No TV (now that I have one, yeah I would miss it, but if I never had one it would be fine)
4. I could still read!
5. I could still knit!

  1. It looks like you all had so much fun at the wineries! I am sure it was a very special day. The pictures are great!

  2. It was so much fun. Thank you mom. I like your new song. Don't think I've ever heard it before. I hope you saved survivor because I want to watch it.

  3. Looks like you had an amazing time. I love the pictures. I never remember to take my camera when I go places--I was just in Utah last week and it was gorgeous but did I take one shot? sigh.

    Hoping Glee picks up too!

And as for the list, you have to give the things you would hate about the 1800s too...
    1. No flush toilets
    2. No running water
    3. No flush toilets

    :-) Have a great one!

  4. I loved all these winery photos! They are such fun places to visit! Bet your daughter had a great time!
Top 5 things I would like about living in the 1800's:

    1. Log cabins!
    2. Simpler way of life (like you!)
    3. Politeness (seems like we've all gone to hell in handbasket nowadays w/ etiquette & politeness.)
    4. Less crime
    5. Less noise

  5. Wow you are lucky to live so close to so many good wineries. It looks like it was a great trip. I watched House last night and I really liked it. I think it will be a good season. Enjoy.

  6. Looks like you all had a GREAT time going winery hoping. It was nice that Paula and Casey came down for Ashleys big day. I have always loved to go to the winerys. Great pictures!
    Top 5:
    1] no gangs
    2] no drugs
3] no threat of nuclear wars [you may have to worry about indians]
    can't think of any more
can think of lots of reason why I would not want to live in the 1800.
1] just think about if you had to have surgery...pretty scary
    2] no flush toilets
3] no running water for showers or dish washers
4] no washers for clothes no electric of any kind
5] would have to wear long hot dresses instead of shorts and jeans.
I am so glad I live now and not then. Life may have been simple but it was a very rough life.

  7. i had a really good time! Thanks for the invite

  8. Love those winery tours. Ruth Lucas gave me "The Forgotten Garden" by Kate Morton to read. I'll bet you would like this one as well. Not what I usually select. Loved it. Couldn't put it down and finished it in two days.

  9. FABULOUS post.. Great photos.. what a good time!

Five things huh? well at first I was going to say phones, tv, and I was going to really going to spout off things.....then I over thought it.. and said no way.. I wouldn't want to live back then in any way shape or form. LOL... shouldn't have over thought your question.. I do that sometimes..

I am thinking of making my daughter this hooded scarf from Interweave Knits for her 21 bd. Wine Tasting might be fun with her too. Since Napa is practically in my back yard.

  10. Wendy I just wanted to let you know there was another delay in shipping your prize. What a flake I am? :) Not really. My starter went out on my car and I had no vehicle to go to the post office...It will come soon....I promise.
